I've seen the MoveOn ads and while I agree with a lot of them, they are attacks on Bush. Kerry also criticized Bush for "hiding behind front groups." Only could easily accuse Kerry of the same thing with MoveOn. If the ads are slanderous or defamatory, then Kerry should take legal measures against them. Otherwise, then there is no fundamental difference between the two in my opinion. I can't stand Bush but Kerry's argument (that the other guy's 527s are horrible but mine are pure as the white snow) doesn't hold water.
