No Average Joe
Bravo to Pandagon, who echoes my earlier thoughts about an “average guy” for president, almost to the word. Here’s what I said:
…you don’t want an average joe. You want someone exceptional…
and here’s what he said:
…it is not a job that requires an “average person”. It requires an exceptional one…

I know ordinary Joes. I work with them. I play basketball with them. They’re great guys to have a beer with. I don’t want them running the country though.

Do you believe that John Kerry is an exceptional person?

Of course he’s exceptional. He’s a strong leader with decades of proven experience in political offices. He’s a decorated soldier who not only fought for his country but also protested when he thought his country was doing wrong. He’s a successful business owner and lawyer.
He’s definitely an exception to the rule, and better suited to run our country than any “average joe.”

I believe John Kerry is someone who is of somewhat above average intelligence, not afraid of self-critique and understands the value of give and take. Basically, he’s smart enough to know he doesn’t know everything and to seek out other opinions.
I’m not voting for him, because he’s wrong on the most important issues. But I’d feel less uncomfortable with him at the helm that Bush.
